Summary:
&moi. is a package for MS-DOS and OS/2 which allows mail to be exchanged
between a PC and any system using the UUCP "g" protocol (i.e. UNIX
systems). It includes a UUCP command for binary transfers, but it
currently does _not_ include USENET news support.

The Archives
&moi. is distributed in several .ZIP format archives, each with a name
of the format of UUPCxxx#.ZIP, where 'xxx' are the last three digits of
the release number, and '#' is a character denoting which archive it is.
The different archives are as follows:

UUPCxxxR is the required program archive, and includes the MS-DOS
versions of the executable files needed to run &moi.,
This is the only archive you need if you want read and deliver mail
using the unmodified
programs on MS-DOS, but you will normally want UUPCxxxO and UUPCxxxD as
well.

UUPCxxxO is the optional program archive, and includes the MS-DOS
versions of additional executable files which support &moi..
Programs are included to perform unattended polling of other systems,
report &moi. status, copy binary files between systems, and a
make the &moi. documents more readable on a terminal.

UUPCxxx2 is the OS/2 required programs archive, and includes the OS/2
versions of the executable programs found in the UUPCxxxR files.
This is the only archive you need if you want read and deliver mail
using the unmodified
programs on OS/2, but you will normally want UUPCxxx3 and UUPCxxxD as
well.

UUPCxxx3 is the OS/2 optional programs archive, and includes the OS/2
versions of the executable programs found in the UUPCxxxO files.

UUPCxxxD is the documention archive, and includes what few
documents that have been written for &moi.. It also includes
sample files and various files from USENET and the Internet describing
how to register your system with the UUCP project, other UUCP clones for
DOS, et cetera.

UUPCxxxS is the source archive, and includes the source files,
makefiles.

UUPCxxxW is the Windows archive, which includes the unformatted
documents, most of which are written in Microsoft Word for Windows.

CHANGES.PRN is a list of recent
changes to &moi. (fixed bugs and enhancements).

MAIL.PRN is used to generate a text file printed by the help (?) command
when reading mail.

TILDE.PRN is used to generate a text file printed by the help (~?)
command when sending mail.

UUSTAT.PRN is the documentation for the UUSTAT program.

BUGS.PRN is a list of known bugs in &moi..

SU.BAT is a sample DOS command file for changing the active user.

UUIO.BAT is a sample DOS command file for running UUCICO and UUXQT in
sequence.

UUPC.RC defines the system information related to &moi., such as the system
name and work directories. Only one UUPC.RC file should exist per PC.

PERSONAL.RC defines the user information related to UUCP, such the user
id
(mailbox) of the user, the user's full name, and the directory to store mail
in. If several people share the same PC, then multiple PERSONAL.RC
files may exist under different names.

PERSONAL.SIG is a sample signature file, which is appended to each mail file
you send.
Use of this file is optional.

SYSTEMS defines the telephone numbers and login information for
other computers the local PC can call.

PASSWD defines systems that can call the local PC.
Use of this file is optional.

PERMISSN defines access for remote systems accessing your system via
UUPC/extended. It is based on the format of the UUCP PERMISSIONS file.

SAMPLE.MDM is a heavily commented modem configuration file which
explains the use of the various fields in modem configuration files.

Programs included in the MS-DOS and OS/2 required programs archives:
The following programs are included in both the UUPCxxxR archive and
UUPCxxx2 archive. Note that under OS/2, there are no .COM files; all
the files have .EXE extensions. The programs included are:

MAIL.EXE is the mail user agent (MUA); it is used for both sending
and receiving mail.

UUCICO.EXE acts the mail transport agent by exchanging files with
other systems via the serial port (modem). It can both call out (active
polling) and wait for another system to call (passive polling).

UUXQT.COM processes requests received via UUCICO, invoking RMAIL.COM or
other programs to process data. It should be run after each UUCICO.EXE
invocation.

RMAIL.COM is called by both MAIL.EXE and UUIO.EXE to deliver mail; as
such, it must be called RMAIL.COM.

FMT.COM is a simple program to format text by wrapping it after 72
columns.

GENSIG random appends quotes or other user selected text to the end of a
fixed signature file.

NOVRSTRK.COM is a program which removes overstrikes from files for
viewing on a terminal. It's use is described above, and is optional.

UUPOLL.COM serves as a driver for UUCICO and UUXQT, invoking UUCICO to
answer
the phone and/or dial out on regular basis and then automatically
invoking UUXQT to process any files received; this permits unattended
operation of &moi., allowing it, for example, to call another
system in the middle of the night.

UUCP.COM is copies binary files between two systems without going through mail.

UUSTAT.COM is a utility to report on and update the status of jobs
queued for other systems.

UUSUB.COM reports statistics on the amount of data transferred between
systems.
